First off, me - an amateur. So take everything (but the coffee) with a grain of salt.
I accidentally bought whole beans - so I accepted my fate and bought a coffee grinder as well.
I messed this up 2-3 times before I could drink it. The first few times, it was so sour my fresh oat milk curdled immediately (sorry, I'm a filthy milk drinker). But mama raised a self-blaming individual, so I wasn't going to give up on the beans that easily!
After all, I tried Dash coffee at an event, and it completely changed my view on what coffee can be - so surely they knew what they were doing selling El Mudo - I sure didn't.
So through experimentation, here's my recipe:
- Grinder - Timemore Chestnut C3s Pro
- Boiler - Hario Zebrang Metal Drip Kettle 1.2 l on induction stove.
- Dripper - Hario Tetsu Kasuya 02
- Filters - cheap bleached filters from Lidl
- Cheap kitchen scale to track my millilitres.
Results may vary based on your equipment: 1:15 ratio (Total: 300ml water / 20g coffee). Set the grinder on 16 clicks - on the coarser side. Make sure your kettle is hot hot HOT! I kept putting my kettle on and off the stove between pours.
[ Pour 1: 40ml ] ──> Let drain completely
[ Pour 2: 80ml ] ──> Let drain completely
[ Pour 3: 60ml ] ──> Let drain completely
[ Pour 4: 60ml ] ──> Let drain completely
[ Pour 5: 60ml ] ──> Let drain completely
Yes, I know, that's a lot of pouring work - but it was worth it. I invited an ADHD friend over who takes baths in cheap coffee and asked him what he thinks - said this was the 2nd best cup of coffee of his life! And considering my coffee skills - massive win!
Good luck, everyone! And I wouldn't mind Dash posting more at-home recipes <3
